But lately, I haven't provided MY favorite things ( prop boxes) for my kids, that I was ALWAYS sure to have in my preschool classroom. A classroom and a home are such different atmospheres, but sometimes I just really get sad that I'm not providing the same things at home for my own kids that I would have fought for in my classroom. So THANK YOU to ABC and 123 for providing this weeks Picnic Table Talk with the topic of Imagination because now that it has been brought to my attention I will be working hard to get some prop boxes made to inspire my kids alittle more.
So, on to explaining how I like to inspire kids to get creative! I LOVE to provide prop boxes! If you set up a tent and some camping gear, they will have their own campout. Normally, I will get out a box filled with a theme of things and set everything up really nicely in a certain area, but I could very easily just set out the box and let the kids figure it all out. Rather than me listing tons of things that can be set out or made into prop boxes, I'm going to refer you so some of my favorite websites for getting ideas.
Prop Boxes
Dramatic Play Props
AND if you promote imagination and silliness in your kids now, they will grow up to STILL want to be silly sometimes!!
Here I am dressed up for a Murder Mystery Night where I had to be a blond Miss Priss.

Here some close friends and I went to a 70's party!

WOW!!!! These pics are great! Boy have I learned alot about you:-). So fun!!
I love your prop box ideas. Can't wait to get some together for my two oldest--hope I have time to get a few together before the baby is here and pull them out at those, "oh so desperate times", during those first few weeks:-)!! Thanks so much for sharing these cute pics (and info about yourself) and ideas!
I have read about prop boxes but I have not actually put any together for my children. Thanks for the inspiration!
Fantastic photos!
Thanks so much for sharing those prop box links - how AWESOME is that! Your pictures are great too!
My boys love to make props for their pretend play! Love the idea of prop boxes for my little ones - they need more help in that area!
Great post. Prop boxes are a lot of fun! My daughter likes to pretend to camp and finds all kind of silly things to bring along.
Thanks for great links. I admit that I am not so much into dramatic play and dress up, but, hey, that's why we supplement our sedate house with the real preschool where hopefully she will get a fantastic preschool teacher as you are :)
Thanks so much for the links! I had made a kitchen prop box for my daughter-she loves it, but haven't made any others. Thanks for the inspiration and the links for more ideas!
Those pictures are great!!!
Thank you so much for this. I really needed the inspiration!
The course I just finished talked about having prop boxes, which I thought was such a great idea. I was trying to figure out how to have all the fun things the children would love in one play area. It never occured to me to have them seperated and bring them out occassionaly. I hope, with parental help, to creat some boxes this year for our school.
