S is for Sensory

For the letter Ss, we have been doing some Ss sensory activities. Check out this GREAT Ebook to see some of the reasons that I LOVE sensory activities.

Today Lyssy and AB played in shaving cream. Look at their faces! They LOVED it!

The great thing about shaving cream is that it appeals to the sense of smell and touch.

We also played in shredded paper.

I hid plastic snakes and spiders in it for the kiddos to find.

Of course we got in the sand box and we sifted it! I had to move it under the carport because it's been raining here nonstop this week.

We also scrub toys with sponges and soap in the bathtub, but I did not take pictures of that.

Messy Playdate

It has been a busy and mentally draining week for me!! To break it up a little and add some fun, we had a Messy Playdate! I invited 10 moms (with about 20 kids) into our backyard to get messy. Each mom came bearing an edible item (so that if the kids ate it it wouldn't do them any harm). While it was TONS of fun, there was also TONS of learning going on... sensory, math, science, practical life.


Here is AB playing in a kiddie pool of flour.

Dried beans.

Lyssy decorated her own cookie at the decorating station.

Aidman fingerpainting with pudding and whip cream.

Ice.

Uncooked pasta.

Cooked pasta.

Lyssy is playing in uncooked rice. We also had cooked rice that I didn't get a picture of.

Cornstarch. They played with it dry for a while, then they added water.

Then Aidman started stirring it as other friends added pasta, oats, flour, rice, ice, and beans to it.

It made a DISGUSTING concoction, but Aidman sat and stirred it for at least an hour. He LOVED it and kept saying that he was cooking and would put it in the oven for everyone to eat.

The kiddos all kept cool and more messy in the kiddie pool and sprinkler. It was SUPER messy and SUPER fun!!

Empty vs. Full

Today we talked about empty and full. I set out a bunch of bowls and put price, beans, noodles, and water in some and left a few empty. Then I gave the kiddos 6 each of signs saying "empty" and full". I then asked them to put the correct sign to the correct bowl.

Afterwards, I let them pour different items into different bowls and rearrange the signs. This occupied Lyssy for a very long time!
