Airplanes

Last week while the airshow was in town we did an airplane story and craft. We read Amazing Airplanes, and it just helped my kids become more obsessed with wanting to fly to TN to see their Gran Gran.

Then we did this really cute airplane craft. We started by taping an airplane stencil to paper. Then we used and roller with blue paint to paint the entire paper. Afterwards, (while still wet) we remove the plane stencil from the paper and glued on cotton ball (clouds). Sorry, I didn't get any pictures of the kids painting, my camera was MIA at the time.

Crystal Castles

Today we read the book Dora saves Crystal Kingdom. Lyssy got this book along with a little pack of stick on jewels in her Easter basket and we finally got around to doing this project together.

The kids both drew a castle and then stuck on the jewels.

It was a simple and fun activity.

A story plus art equals a GREAT Start.

The Mitten

This week we are learning about arctic animals, so of course we had to read The Mitten by Jan Brett.

We thought it would be fun to see how many animals we could fit in our white glove.

We fit a quail, an elephant, a peacock, a tiger, a lioness, a giraffe, a cat, a dog, and a flamingo. That is 9 animals total! The kiddos had a BLAST doing this. My glove was pretty stretched out afterwards.

Angel Craft

We got the book Albasters Song by Max Lucado from the library this week. My kiddos really like it! I have been planning on having the kids make footprints angels, but just haven't gotten to it yet. Well, today I am one IMPRESSED and PROUD Mama!!

Aidman saw some styrofoam plates and said "I need scissors, and glue, and glitter so I can make an angel". I am SO happy that I listened and gave it all to him right away (sadly I don't always do that and this has showed me that I NEED to!!). When he finished he asked for a pipe cleaner halo.

Seriously, I am THRILLED about his creativity. I did ask him if he'd ever made or seen one of these angels before and he said that he made angel wings like that at preschool last week. But still, to see something and ask for all the materials and then make it by himself was pretty good.


Lyssy of course, wanted to do the same thing as her brother. She decorated everything herself, I cut it all for her (only because styrofoam is hard to cut), and she put it together.

stART

I've been wanting to participate in A Mommy's Adventures Story + Art = A great stART for awhile now, I finally got around to it!! In preparing for the movie we decided to read Where the Wild Things are and make these cute wild things. We LOVE that book! I got this basic art idea from No Time for Flashcards.

The kiddos have been playing with their wild things nonstop and love them!

C is for Clouds

Today we read It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles G. Shaw. I love this book because of it's repetitive nature and how easy it is to identify the pictures. The kiddos feel like they can read it all by themselves which is a big self esteem boaster.

Then we went outside to look at the clouds.

The girls enjoyed talking about what they looked like.

Then we made out own clouds. We squirted glue onto blue paper.

And added cotton balls to it.

They said that AB's (top) looks like a basket, Lyssy's (middle) looks like a pig, and Aidman's (bottom) looks like a baseball.

Feet!!

Today was all about the foot for the letter Ff. First we read the Foot Book by Dr. Seuss. We LOVE that book.

Then we painted with our feet.

It was alot of fun.

Aidman walked everywhere while Lyssy pretty much stayed in one area.

Then we Followed 15 Feet.

The feet led to Funny socks to put on our Feet.

Lyssy looked really funny!

Then they followed the feet several more times.

Until Aidman's socks started coming off and Lyssy tackled him with a hug, he wasn't very happy.

Rainbow Fish

Tonight we read The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Then, we made our own rainbow fish.

I asked Aidman how we could make them and he said that we needed to paint a fish blue, green, and purple and then add glitter (I was thinking tin foil, but his idea was better).

Lyssy cut her fish alittle too much, and then asked Mommy to cut one for her.

Then we got started painting.

Daddy even decided to join the fun. He wanted to make a shark instead.

We were all so proud of our work.

Daddy caught a SHARK!!

And this will be week 5 of my 52 week challenge to get mama in a picture every single week.

Art

We went to the Library today and got a BUNCH of really great books! Since I LOVE book projects, you'll probably see several over the next several days.

Today we read Art by Patrick McDonnell. It is a cute picture book about a boy named Art who likes to do art. What art book would be complete without some open ended art?? Since it is SO beautiful outside, we decided to take it to the Yard.

I got the idea of sidewalk chalk paint from FrugalFamilyFun. All it is is 1 part cornstarch to 1 part water plus a couple drops of food coloring.


The kiddos really enjoyed painting with this.

Once dried, it really does look like sidewalk chalk. Best part is that it washes right off of everything (children included!).

Our Nest Is Best!

Today we read The Best Nest by P.D. Eastman (one of our favorite authors!).

Then we went searching for a nest. We have 3 REALLY big squirrel nest in our trees. We also walked our entire street on the hunt for more nest, we found several.

Next, we decided to make our own nest. The kids said that we needed leaves, moss, sticks, and grass, so that's what they looked for.

Then they got busy building the nest. We found that it was easiest to keep intact by putting the sticks through the moss and connecting it that way. I asked them if they could build a nest without using their hands like birds do and they said that would be too hard.

Our nest looks pretty good!
