Crystal Castles

Today we read the book Dora saves Crystal Kingdom. Lyssy got this book along with a little pack of stick on jewels in her Easter basket and we finally got around to doing this project together.

The kids both drew a castle and then stuck on the jewels.

It was a simple and fun activity.

A story plus art equals a GREAT Start.

Kids in the Kitchen

The other day I was feeling very very bored, which doesn't happen very often. I needed something to do with myself. So I decided to try out a new recipe, which is one of my very favorite things to do! Of course the kiddos HAD to help!

What did we make? Carrot Cake! You MUST try this recipe! It was so very very good and very very easy!

Crazy Caterpillar

About two weeks ago, Aidman went to a friends house and made this awesome grass caterpillar. All it is is a knee high, soil, grass seeds, google eyes, and pipe cleaners.

After alot of water and beautiful Florida sunshine for 2 weeks, it's looking more like a shaggy dog than a caterpillar.
So, Aidman decided it needed a hair cut.

This was a great cutting and fine motor activity, plus it was great for senses and textures.

Open Ended Art ~ Clay Mosaics

This weeks Open Ended Art is Clay/Playdough Mosaics. Ours didn't exactly turn into a mosaic, but I wanted them to do as they pleased so I let them.

We started off by giving them strips of clay and scissors so the could cut it. They ecah cut it into little squares, a bunch of them.

Then Aidman decided to make a big ball.

And Lyssy made a tower.

Afterwards, they each smashed their work, cut it into pieces again, and then made balls.

Banana Box Race Cars

Today we had a playdate to show everyone how to make these awesome race car boxes because everyone loved them so much at Aidman's birthday party.

We take a regular ole banana box (that I get free at the local grocery store). I cut the center hole alittle bigger and add handles to the sides.

I like to paint them white first because it makes the paint stand out better. Kinda like priming the box.


Decorate to your liking.

And you have an awesome race box!

These boxes show alittle better how I cut them (on top and between the holes on the sides).

Then start racing.

As you can see, for the party I had put on rope for the kids to put over their shoulders. I noticed that the kids had a hard time with them and it just worked much better with them only holding onto the handles.

Cherry Cobbler ~ KITK

Cherries are on sale this week, so we bought a bunch (probably too much). Lyssy and I decided to make cherry cobbler because Daddy loves any dessert with cherries.

Lyssy took the stems off the cherries.

I pitted the cherries using a straw (yes that is a crazy straw, but it worked wonders).

Lyssy poured in the ingredients.

And mixed it all up.

Top it with vanilla bean ice cream and you have a pretty good dessert.

I'm not going to include the recipe because I did not love it (the cherries were great, the breading wasn't as good). If you have a good cherry cobbler or crisp recipe then please send it my way!

C is for Clouds

Today we read It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles G. Shaw. I love this book because of it's repetitive nature and how easy it is to identify the pictures. The kiddos feel like they can read it all by themselves which is a big self esteem boaster.

Then we went outside to look at the clouds.

The girls enjoyed talking about what they looked like.

Then we made out own clouds. We squirted glue onto blue paper.

And added cotton balls to it.

They said that AB's (top) looks like a basket, Lyssy's (middle) looks like a pig, and Aidman's (bottom) looks like a baseball.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Today we made Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies for the letter Cc.

The kids love mixing!

And pouring.

And stiring. Cooking is FUN!!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup butter, softened

1 1/2 cups sugar

2 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 3/4 cups flour

2/3 cup cocoa powder

3/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 cups chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350. Beat butter, sugar, egges, and vanilla until fluffy. Stir in dry ingredients. Mix in choclate chips. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 15 minutes.

Letter Cc Muffin Tin Monday

The theme for Muffin Tin Monday this week is letters of the alphabet. Since we are working on the letter Cc and there happens to be a ton of food items that start with that letter, we decided to do a Cc muffin tin.

The kids were so excited to get candy in their muffin tins!

Do your kids switch food? Every time we have a meal that has items that one kid likes and the other doesn't, they switch. Today, Aidman gave Lyssy his carrots and she gave him her cherry tomatoes.

Crayon Colored Cc

I LOVE how Lyssy hangs all of her art work on the fridge, with tons of magnets. Does she think it is heavy and will fall off if it doesn't have a lot of magnets?

The plan was for the kiddos to glue cotton balls onto the letter Cc. But when I got out the materials Aidman made this giant fuss about how he didn't want to glue and of course Lyssy joined in the fuss. So I quickly searched my brain for another Cc thing to do. I asked if they wanted to color with crayons and there were cheers all around.

I'm glad that I gave them the option because they spent a really long time coloring and really enjoyed themselves.

Aidman was trying to make a Gators Cc with Blue and Orange.
